Backcountry Adventures
Calling all Explorers
In Houston, outdoor adventure doesn’t come prepackaged. Just beyond town, the backcountry calls for curiosity, preparation, and a willingness to go a little further. Head past the trailheads and you’ll find rugged routes, alpine ridges, and quiet lakes that reward time spent, not just miles covered. Whether you’re hiking, fishing, sledding, or camping, this is a place for those who come ready, think ahead, and travel with care.

Hiking
Our trails reward those who put in the steps. From quiet forest paths to ridge-top climbs, every route delivers space to think, breathe, and take in the view.
Hunting
We border some of BC’s most accessible hunting territory. With knowledge, preparation, and respect, hunters can go far—and deeper still.
Camping
Pitch a tent, park the RV, or haul into the bush. However you camp, we’ve got room to roam, starry skies, and a good night’s rest perched on the edge of vast nature.
Foraging
Foraging near town means slowing down, looking closely, and spotting edible prizes tucked in the undergrowth. The land rewards those who know how to pay attention.
Auroras and
northern skies
TIPS FOR CATCHING THE NORTHERN SKIES
Far from big city lights, Houston’s night skies stretch endlessly — a perfect stage for stars, constellations, and the dazzling Aurora Borealis. All year round, cold, clear nights set the scene for nature’s ultimate light show, with ribbons of green, pink, and purple often appearing around midnight. The wait? It’s part of the magic.
- The best view is from somewhere dark and open, like Four Seasons Park near the Ball Diamonds—just bundle up, look up, and let the sky do the rest.
- The spring and fall equinoxes can also surprise you with their own bursts of colour.
- Even on nights when the Aurora stays quiet, Houston’s skies don’t disappoint. With more stars than you’ll ever count, they offer a view as vast as the land—calm, unspoiled, and breathtaking.
be prepared & travel with care
