LAKESIDE VIEWS: FRANÇOIS LAKE LOOP
Journey through the Nadina Forest District and along François Lake’s peaceful northern shoreline on this scenic route.
Start Your Adventure: Begin 4 km west of Houston on Highway 16, turning onto the Morice River Forest Service Road. At 27km, follow the Morice-Owen FSR and keep an eye out for moose. Stop at Owen Lake Recreation Site (39 km) to enjoy the quiet lake views.
Painted Rock Detour:At 48 km, take a quick detour up Tahtsa Road to visit Painted Rock—a natural feature worth the stop.
François Lake Comes Into View: Rejoin the mainline and turn left at 53 km onto Owen-East FSR, leading to Colleymount Road, where François Lake’s calm waters first appear.
Explore Noralee and Beyond: Visit fishing resorts in Noralee and stop by Joan’s Chapel, a quaint local landmark. Discover the historic Clemretta Ranch and Colleymount, the oldest settlement in the Bulkley Valley/Lakes District.
Complete the Loop: Reach the François Lake Ferry Landing, then follow Highway 35 to Burns Lake. Finish your trip by returning to Houston on Highway 16.
